在很早以前，古希臘羅馬人就瞭解到礦物溫泉對人體的治療作用，他們建起許多大型浴場，將沐浴礦物溫泉作為養生與享受的一種方式。
　　但是發展到中世紀，任何對人體有益或者享樂的活動都被看成是一種罪惡。於是，享受礦物溫泉浴也作為逾矩行為，受到清教徒們的禁止而逐漸流失。
　　直到18世紀，一位法國伯爵意外發現，由於愛犬經常在礦物溫泉裡洗澡，竟然治好了皮膚病，於是他開始用礦物溫泉來調理皮膚。到了18世紀末，人們才又重新開始熱衷於礦物溫泉的浸浴。
　　經過研究和實踐，人們發現發源於法國南部山區的礦物溫泉對人體，特別是對肌膚有著特殊療效。多年以來，BIOTHERM碧歐泉的生物學家們致力於研究肌膚的生命力，以及它們的內在需求。他們深入法國山脈深處，發現這些對皮膚的特殊療效來自礦泉中數千個與肌膚細胞完全相似的有機物質，於是將運用專利技術將他們萃取，應用於化妝品研發。終於，20多年來的努力讓他們自礦物溫泉中探測到一種神奇物質，它就是礦泉有機活性因子P.E.T.PTM。
　　BIOTHERM碧歐泉的總部設在以品質著稱的袖珍王國--摩納哥。摩納哥是歐洲南部的一個美麗的袖珍國家，那裡富饒而美麗，優雅而純淨。BIOTHERM碧歐泉的產品也都生產於這裡，與摩納哥的形象恰如其分的匹配，而摩納哥著稱於世的對產品質量、包裝等的精益求精，也與 BIOTHERM碧歐泉的產品形象不謀而合。
BIOTHERM所有保養產品都有礦泉活性萃取精華（PETP）的舒緩功效，生物學家在山中礦泉發現這獨特的活性成分；至今仍不斷研發。礦泉活性萃取精華（PETP）具有與肌膚細胞相近的生物特性，具卓越天然平衡與舒緩肌膚的能力。活性成分並富含微量元素、礦物鹽及蛋白質。

Biotherm自從一九七O年被L'Oreal集團並購後，目前營銷全球四十多國。
