Domenico 　Dolce和Stefano　Gabbana兩個意大利人，在攜手共創Dolce　&　Gabbana品牌前，人生的道路是全然不同的，一個小時便常跟隨父親在小服飾店內選布料、剪裁、與裁縫，另一個則與時裝完搭不上關係，直到他們在米蘭相遇，才促成Dolce　&　Gabbana的誕生。

Dolce　&　Gabbana的作風非常獨特，創業之初步不但婉拒交付大成衣工廠代工生產，堅持自己製版、裁縫、樣品和裝飾配件及所有服裝，還只任用非職業模特兒走秀，對於當時講究排場的時裝界，是相當獨樹一格的。展示會中經常播放古典音樂、化妝、地中海髮型及具有一頭黑髮和南方女子身材的模特兒所經營出的南意大利西西里島風情，幾乎以成為Dolce　&　Gabbana獨特的標誌風格。

Dolce 　&　Gabbana的服裝一直都以天主教婦女身上的黑色作為最主要的用色，南歐宗教色彩也轉移為圖案的表現上。除了南意大利西西里島的創作靈感，強調性感的曲線，像是內衣式的背心剪裁搭配西裝，是Dolce　&　Gabbana最典型的服裝造型。

意大利女性穿著講究飾品，使得Dolce　&　Gabbana的配件都顯得相當華麗，從皮草制的復古提包，搭配繡滿圖案的及膝襪，都極具Dolce　&　 Gabbana設計風格。與飾品相較，Dolce　&　Gabbana的眼鏡就顯得較為低調，避免複雜的金屬裝飾，復古簡單的設計，突顯出幹練的都會氣質。

90年代初內衣外穿的風潮，奠定了Dolce　&　Gabbana內衣與泳裝系列復古風格的基礎，傳統造型的內衣成為重要的搭配單品。而其所推出的香水更獲得許多大大小小的獎項。值得一提的是Dolce　&　Gabbana並不等於D&G，D& G是它近年來越來越受歡迎的年輕副牌。兩者結合了來自意大利的萬種風情，為時尚圈帶來活力四射的風格與創意。
